Description
The sunglasses draws inspiration from a treasured calligraphy passage in the National Palace Museum in Taiwan — Timely Clearing after Snowfall, by the great calligrapher Wang Xizhi during the Eastern Jin Dynasty. This piece of handwriting art is praised as a “universally unrivaled and timeless excellence” by Emperor Qianlong during the Qing Dynasty, who wrote down the character “Shen”, meaning “divinity” to honor Wang’s divine virtuosity. A selection of the script is printed onto the lenses through a special coating technique, which displays the art of writing on the front whilst maintaining an unaffected clear view for the wearer. It is a fusion of modern eyewear with Chinese artifact and history. Not only is it an artistic statement of historical and modern taste, but also a creative expression of eastern and western element.
